Catching Up [Sep. 21st, 2012|03:37 pm]
spreadnparanoia
The awful thing about not posting for so long is that so much happens it's impossible to play catch up and I don't even know where to start. The last few months were particularly insane which is why I've been too busy to post. Since I last wrote here I:
  • Got a new full time job
  • Closed on and moved into a house
  • Got married
  • Went on an amazing honeymoon to Seattle and Alaska
So yeah. Basically it was the biggest period of life change ever. As Kevin said to me early in August we're unlikely to ever have a better month than that month was. My birthday was August 3 and I had my bachelorette party the day after which was truly excellent. The weekend after was Kevin's bachelor party. The weekend after that we moved. The weekend after that we got married and the weekend after that we were in Alaska. Pretty insane.

We're still in that weird afterglow phase where we're trying to get used to referring to each other as husband or wife and Kevin is constantly fidgeting with his wedding band, the first ring he's ever worn, and being afraid it's going to fall off. We're mostly unpacked but still have a lot of things to settle in the house, which is incredible. The entire process of buying it was incredibly stressful. Even though we're a textbook case of people who should get a mortgage (plenty of savings, minimal debt, two high-paying jobs) we were terrified and to boot the roof of the house we wanted turned out to be busted and we had to negotiate repairs before we could close.

But it all worked out and I'm constantly astonished by the amount of space we now have. I was unpacking some dried goods and piling them all on a shelf and Kevin pointed out I didn't have to be so cluttered, opening a series of empty cabinets. So now I have a shelf for just cooking oils and one for other sauces and one for just pasta and one for rices because why not. And we can put random crap we rarely use like coolers and luggage in the garage or basement. And I have a garage! It's pretty incredible.

Dare I ask what the new full-time gig is? Always nice to see old friends do well.

It's as an editor at a trade magazine. There will be a full post on it later.

Enjoy the space while it lasts! It's surprising how quickly it fills up.
